Homage to Lulu - exhibit pics
Here are some snapshots I took of "Homage to Lulu: 100 Years of Louise Brooks" - both as it was being installed and after it opened. Hopefully, this gives a sense of the scope of the exhibit, which is currently on display at the San Francisco Public Library. The hardest thing was figuring out what to include and what to leave out. There were some things that I was eager to share, like the full-page Sunday color comic of "Dixie Dugan," and the various compact discs, 45's and long playing records (LP's) I've collected over the years which feature an image of Louise Brooks.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone who sees this exhibit. Let me know what you think. There is also a stand with a comments book. The stand also has fliers for Louise Brooks-related events in the Bay Area.

I got chills looking at these,I would really love to see it in person. No local stores carry the new book and I am hoping I get it for Christmas...love seeing her face anywhere!

A reminder to anyone looking for "Louise Brooks: Lulu Forever". The book retails for $55.00 - and it is worth every penny. It is filled with dozens of full-page images - many not found elsewhere. AND, if you would like to obtain a copy autographed by the author, Peter Cowie, simply contact The Booksmith in San Francisco to place an order. (Signed copies are available at no extra charge.) Cowie lives in Switzerland, so this is everyone's chance to get a copy autographed by the author and by someone who knew Louise Brooks!

The Booksmith, an independent bookstore, is hosting Cowie on Sunday. Their email is read@booksmith.com and the phone number is 415-863-8688. (The website is www.booksmith.com). THE STORE WILL ALSO THROW IN A FEW EXTRA LOUISE BROOKS GOODIES WITH EVERY PURCHASE.

Absolutely fantastic work, Thomas. What an amazing exhibit, and the panels are perfectly stunning. I'm tempted to splurge on a plane ticket!

Amanda,

Don't you have something on display at the Wichita Public Library? There is a big event there this Sunday.....

I do, ja. I wish I'd had as much space as you did, but I was given only one display case. Several vintage magazines, many modern postcards, the Pandora's Box script, the Barry Paris signed broadside, etc. are there. I'll take some digital pics. The display will be there through the first of December.

Just be sure to actually be quiet when you're in there so you don't cheese off everyone in the room.

I really regret that such a homage is not carried out in France to Louise, especially by seeing your work

Bravo et merci Thomas !

Saw the exhibit last week and thought it was great. Got one shot of the haunting "Homage" poster and my camera batteries died! Some neat stuff I hadn't seen before. Thanks for sharing!

Bill
