Nice art!

There's an article, "Sound of the Silents: Making Music for the Movies", at a Kansas City arts website, http://presentmagazine.com/ ; although the film series includes the Lumière Bros., Asian nomads, and African bushmen as well as Louise Brooks, the editors chose to illustrate the article (in March) exclusively with stills of Louise. (A Search of "Diary of a Lost Girl" at the homepage will fetch it.)

I prefer their description of the movie to the library's: "Released almost immediately after the film classic Pandora’s Box, this is the second collaboration between German director G.W. Pabst and iconic actress Louise Brooks. The story chronicles the travails of a young woman who is cast off by her family and alienated from society before fate elevates her to the aristocracy."

Sounds of Silents: Original Musical Scores Performed Live with Classic Cinema

The Kansas City Public Library presents silent films the way the
filmmakers intended: with live musical performances accompanying each frame. Local composer Jeffrey Ruckma leads the Spoonbender Consort, playing his own unique scores with eclectic instrumentation arranged for documentary and dramatic films from the Silent Era.

The series concludes with Diary of a Lost Girl on Saturday, June 21,
at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Truman Forum at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

This second collaboration between German director G.W. Pabst and
iconic actress Louise Brooks chronicles the travails of a young woman who is cast off by her family and alienated from society before fate elevates her to the aristocracy.

The Spoonbender Consort offers a cross-cultural mix of kalimbas and
bata drum as well as Western woodwinds, piano, and the expressive bass
playing of Kansas City bandleader Bill McKemy.

Admission is free. Click here or call 816.701.3407 to indicate your
interest in attending. Free parking is available in the Library District
Parking Garage at 10th and Baltimore.

Dates & Location: Central Library - 6/21/2008 at 3:30 PM
